Fresh from headlining the Roots Stage at Kendal Calling, Polyvinyl are quickly becoming one of the most essential alternative acts across the North. The six-piece outfit combine the shimmering indie-pop hooks of Alvvays with the fierce grit of Wolf Alice/The Cranberries, generating a massive, anthemic sound that is built specifically for large stages.
At the front is Annabelle, a powerful vocalist with an unpredictable presence, who commands audiences in a colourful, self-made rhinestone corset. Backed by driving synthesisers, guitars, and rich three-part harmonies, Polyvinyl songs always tell a story, whether lived or fiction, but always relatable nonetheless. This is shown explicitly through their second concept EP, ‘Where This Ends’, which explores the journey of overcoming trauma.
The band’s creative ambition extends well past the stage. Their latest EP is a concept piece accompanied by a self-directed short film, shot by bassist John like a lost 90s TV special that weaves together five interconnected music videos. This unique approach to releasing has grown the band into a major regional success story, with a sold-out EP Launch, over 90,000 plays on their second EP, several festival slots, and an Amazing Radio Takeover under their belt.
With a publishing deal from Wipe Out Music and regular airplay on BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio, Polyvinyl are gaining serious traction. They recorded their latest material with an elite production team featuring producer Lisa Murphy (Melanie Baker, DuBlond), mix engineer Paul Gregory (Lanterns on the Lake), and mastering engineer Katie Tavini (Bloc Party, Congratulations).
